Sonia Stanyard is a London-based artist with a BA Hon’s in Fine Art from the Southampton Institute of Higher Education and a 2021 Turps Banana Correspondence Course graduate. 

Her current work explores how far she can stretch and push her ideas through the self imposed limitation of one material, in this case, handprinted green paper.

Stanyard has exhibited internationally, with a solo show, Nurtured Landscapes, at Lab 610 De Faveri Contemporary Art Gallery in Italy, and group shows at the London Art Fair, Basel Art Fair, Art Verona and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. She has won awards including the Door Prize for Painting at Centre Space Gallery, Bristol, and the Leguna Art Prize Special Award in Venice. Her work is in many private collections and publicly she can be found in the permanent collections at Southlands Hospital, Sussex and LLewelyn’s Restaurant, London.

She has participated in residencies at the prestigious Vermont Studio Centre (USA) and was a recipient of a National Lottery Award for travel and research, and a Slab Building Clay Residency at West Dean College in 2024. 

Stanyard's upcoming exhibitions include group shows at London Craft Week with Blackout Gallery, Rabetts Gallery, Sluice and LungA School, Iceland (May 2025). Art at Home Gallery, South Wales and the Artist Open Studio as part of the Camberwell Arts Festival.
